The University of Zielona Góra has established cooperation with the University of Nigeria - Nasarawa State University Keffi

The University of Zielona Góra constantly establishes international cooperation with the universities from all over the world. Another bilateral agreement was concluded today in the Senate Hall of UZ, this time with the University of Nigeria - Nasarawa State University Keffi. The contract was signed by Prof. Ph.D. Wojciech Strzyżewski, Rector of the University of Zielona Góra and Prof. Suleiman Bala Mohammed - Vice-Chancellor of Nasarawa State University Keffi.

 

During the meeting, the University of Nigeria was represented by: Vice-Chancellor of Nasarawa State University Keffi - Prof. Suleiman Bala Mohammed, Secretary - Bala I Ahmed and Director of the International Relations and Cooperation - Assoc. Prof. Nghargbu K'tso. The University of Zielona Góra was represented by: Rector of the University of Zielona Góra, Prof. Wojciech Strzyżewski, Ph.D., Vice-Rector for Science and International Cooperation, Assoc. Prof. Marcin Mrugalski, Ph.D., D.Sc. , the Chancellor of the University of Zielona Góra, Mrs. Katarzyna Łasińska and the Head of the International Cooperation Office, Kamila Rabiko.

 

Prof. Wojciech Strzyżewski pointed out that the two universities have a lot in common in terms of the structure and the multidisciplinarity: "Nasarawa State University Keffi, similarly to our university, offers fields of study ranging from medicine to art. It employs over 100 professors, so its potential is very similar to our university. But they have more students. There are 35,000 students at the Nigerian university and at our university, there are less than 10,000 students.”

 

He added also that: “This is the first African university with which the UZ has signed the agreement. As we agreed with the Vice-Rector, Prof. Mohammed, I hope that our scientists will be able to conduct research in Africa together with Nigerian scientists, mainly in the field of environmental engineering. I hope that our students will choose to undertake short study stays at Nasarawa State University Keffi.”

 

Prof. Marcin Mrugalski added that the recent activities of the University of Zielona Góra in terms of international cooperation has been exceptionally intense: "Over the last three months, we have signed 5 cooperation agreements: with two universities from Vietnam, with the Catalan University of Technology and with the Tokyo University of Technology. In addition, recently, on September 26, the bilateral agreement was signed with the University of California, Berkeley, in the United States".

 

The university authorities from Nigeria are also content with the start of this cooperation: "This cooperation will consist primarily in student and scientific staff exchange. We hope that we will be able to send as many students as possible to the University of Zielona Góra for master's and doctorate studies. This cooperation is also expected to result in joint publications and projects conducted by scientists from both universities - added Prof. Suleiman Bala Mohammed - Vice-Chancellor of Nasarawa State University Keffi.

 

The delegation from Nigeria visited individual faculties of the University of Zielona Góra, where they met with the deans and the directors of the following institutes:

  1. Faculty of Economics and Management - Ph.D. Eng. Leszek Kaźmierczak-Piwko, Vice-Dean for Students
  2. Faculty of Physics and Astronomy - Prof. Andrzej Drzewiński, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Physical Education
  3. Faculty of Mathematics, Computer Science and Econometrics – Assoc. Prof. Bogdan Szal, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of WMIE
  4. Faculty of Mechanical Engineering - Prof. Justyna Patalas-Maliszewska, Ph.D., D.Sc., Director of the Institute of Mechanical Engineering
  5. Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Environmental Engineering – Assoc Prof. Sylwia Myszograj, Ph.D., D.Sc., Director of the Institute of Environmental Engineering.

Our guests also had the opportunity to visit the airport in Przylep, where they learned about the education of students in the field of aviation mechanics and engineering at the University of Zielona Góra.
