4th Lubusz Vascular Days – Diagnosis, Recognition, and Modern Treatment Methods for Limb Edema

For the fourth time, representatives of the medical community gathered to exchange experiences and update their knowledge at the Lubusz Vascular Days. This year, the conference focused on acute and chronic lower limb edema.

The scientific conference was opened by the Rector of the University of Zielona Góra, Prof. Wojciech Strzyżewski, who emphasized the importance of such meetings: “This is an important stage in building a medical scientific community, which has been developing very dynamically in recent years. I believe that future conferences, and later the 10th anniversary of the medical program, will create milestones that will further contribute to the development of medicine at the University of Zielona Góra.”

As explained by Prof. Łukasz Dzieciuchowicz, Head of the Department of Surgery and Vascular Diseases at the Collegium Medicum of the University of Zielona Góra, this year’s topic—lower limb edema—is very common: “This is a significant clinical problem. Many patients consult vascular surgeons as well as other doctors. Diagnosing the cause of edema is not easy, nor is its subsequent treatment. That is why I considered it a very interesting topic. Judging by the number of participants, this was a good choice.” He added: “The conference was an opportunity to learn something new, update our knowledge, or simply verify what we know. For us as lecturers and organizers, it is important because we also listen to others and can learn from them. As the Latin maxim says, Docendo discimus—by teaching others, we teach ourselves—and that has real value.”

The event was divided into four thematic sessions: Acute Limb Edema; Chronic Limb Edema – Causes and Conservative Treatment; Surgical Treatment of Chronic Limb Edema; and Limb Edema in Hemodialysis Patients. One of the speakers, Dr. Renata Korczak from the Department of Surgery and Vascular Diseases at Collegium Medicum, presented on infectious causes of lower limb edema: “I discussed common infectious diseases. One such condition is erysipelas, which is especially common in summer. I also spoke about edema related to Lyme disease and rare tropical diseases. I believe that such knowledge exchange helps clinicians in hospitals and outpatient care.”

The conference was held under the honorary patronage of: the Rector of the University of Zielona Góra, Prof. Wojciech Strzyżewski; the Mayor of Zielona Góra, Marcin Pabierowski; and the Marshal of the Lubusz Voivodeship, Sebastian Ciemnoczołowski.
