These were days filled with emotion and memories for another group of graduates from the University of Zielona Góra. On Friday, during a formal graduation ceremony, psychology students said farewell to the university. A day later, with the symbolic tossing of their caps, it was the law students’ turn to bid farewell.
Both groups gained their knowledge and skills at our university in unusual circumstances — their studies included remote learning during and shortly after the pandemic.
This year, 117 psychology students are graduating from the University of Zielona Góra. Half of them chose to take part in the graduation ceremony. As Dr. hab. Jarosław Bąbka, Prof. UZ, said, every psychologist — regardless of their specialization — must be open to the world and to other people. “I believe that the years spent at university were not wasted. Now, master’s exams await them. Then comes their professional path, during which they will solve many mysteries of the modern world. Psychology attracts candidates with very high high school exam results, which shows that they are curious about the world but also have very high expectations of academic teachers. They ask a lot of questions and expect thorough answers. That’s why the graduation ceremony is not only a time of reflection for the students, but also for the staff at UZ. We ask ourselves whether we’ve managed to prepare future psychologists well for life and work in this fast-changing world,” added the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences.
Saturday was equally emotional. That day, the University Hall on Podgórna Street became a place of farewells and reflections for nearly 70 law students. “This is the culmination of an important stage in our graduates’ education. It’s also a moment of reflection, and perhaps even gratitude and pride in what has been accomplished. Today, people are graduating who worked hard for several years. We wish them continued perseverance in pursuing their goals, a sense of balance in life, and only the right legal judgments,” said Dr. hab. Ewaryst Kowalczyk from the Institute of Legal Sciences at UZ.
More graduation ceremonies are planned in the coming days. On Saturday, July 12, students from the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Faculty of Science and Natural Sciences will symbolically say goodbye to the University of Zielona Góra and receive their diplomas.
