“A great event! It really showcases the study opportunities here,” said participants of the University of Zielona Góra Open Day 2025, taking full advantage of its many attractions. Others added, “You present and explain everything so engagingly!” It was a pleasure to hear such words while walking through the bustling corridors of our university, filled that day with youthful enthusiasm and a passion for science. Packed stands, lively conversations with students and staff, the search for dream study programmes, and lecture halls filled to capacity – that’s how we can briefly summarize this year’s edition of the event.

On 15 October 2025, the University of Zielona Góra welcomed around 1,300 high school students from the Lubuskie region and neighbouring areas. They were hosted at Campus A, in Building A-29, where activities were spread across six floors, divided into thematic zones. The goal was to encourage young people to awaken their curiosity and experience learning in a hands-on, engaging way within the university walls. The event was also meant to help them discover their future paths and ease any uncertainty before this new stage in life. After all, studying is a serious decision – but it should also be associated with one of the best periods in life, full of development, passion, and new opportunities.

Right at the entrance, guests were greeted by student guides. On the ground floor, the Information and Promotion Zone offered details about the university’s academic and research offer, student life, admissions, dormitories, scholarships, and the region itself. There was also a stand dedicated to international study and internship opportunities. Nearby, Mateusz Kasperczyk from Radio Index conducted interviews with exhibitors, talked about the activities of the university’s academic media, and announced upcoming points of the Open Day programme.

And what did we have in store?

All floors were filled with stands run by dozens of student research clubs and organizations representing various fields of study. Visitors could explore themed zones such as: Mind and Universe, Engineering and Design, Thought and Society, Medicine, Health and Technology, New Technologies, and Biology and Nature. Each floor offered plenty of attractions and interactive learning opportunities – from presentations, experiments, demonstrations, and tests to games and creative activities.

Outside the building, visitors could admire a glider and enjoy the sports zone. For many students, the visit was also a unique opportunity to talk directly with lecturers and, most importantly, with current UZ students. All exhibitors welcomed guests warmly, creating a friendly atmosphere and leaving a lasting positive impression.

As every year, the popular science lectures were a huge success. Responding to requests from schools, we increased their number to nine sessions – yet all places were quickly booked again. The speakers captivated audiences with fascinating topics, including: the role of robotics in space exploration, facts and myths about organ transplantation, global demographic trends, limits of power in politics, the art of constructive disagreement, the ways biomedical engineering supports humans and animals, how to spot manipulation and fake news, how our brain works, and even how to overcome laziness. Participants left the lecture halls inspired, reflective, and enriched with new knowledge.

We sincerely thank all the students for spending this vibrant and inspiring day with us! We look forward to welcoming a new group of graduates next year – and we hope that many of this year’s visitors will soon return as members of our academic community.

The Open Day 2025 was organized by the University Promotion Office. We would like to thank all exhibitors, speakers, students, and staff involved in the event for their engagement and cooperation. Together, we build a positive image of our university!
