From Greater Poland to Lubusz: UZ Joins Forces with the Police School in Piła

27.03.2026 Candidates

The University of Zielona Góra once again proves that distance is no barrier when it comes to education. On Thursday, March 26, an agreement was signed between the university and the Police School in Piła. The agreement covers, among other things, the joint organization of educational initiatives and the exchange of knowledge in the field of curricula.

The cooperation will focus on legal, psychological, and social issues, as well as methodological aspects.
“I am very pleased with this cooperation. The Police School in Piła has an excellent teaching infrastructure, which our students already use during classes at the Faculty of Social Sciences. Signing this agreement will intensify that exchange. We also share common areas of interest and may jointly embark on scientific research related to the functioning of the Police School in Piła. Many of our graduates choose careers in uniformed services, which further highlights the importance of this agreement,” says Prof. Wojciech Strzyżewski, Rector of the University of Zielona Góra.

Future plans also include organizing joint courses and professional development training for staff from both institutions.
“We are focusing primarily on the exchange of concrete information, as well as joint initiatives such as conferences and workshops. We expect valuable insights from a scientific perspective. This is an opportunity to improve the competencies of our lecturers and expand the knowledge of our trainees. The agreement also promotes the profession of a police officer. UZ students are also our future officers—we want to attract new recruits and encourage them to join the police,” explains Insp. Dr. Mariusz Jaworski, Commandant of the Police School in Piła.
“We are interested in UZ’s work in the field of security and want to benefit as much as possible from its academic achievements. This cooperation aims to improve the quality of police training across Poland,” adds Insp. Marcin Sapun, Deputy Commandant for education.

On behalf of the university, the unit responsible for implementing the agreement is the Institute of Pedagogy.
“Our cooperation, strictly educational and scientific in nature, will involve both students and academic staff. It will focus on gathering knowledge for research purposes and as a basis for educational materials. In particular, we want to emphasize the professional dimension associated with police service. Our students and graduates are increasingly choosing careers in uniformed services, so the practical aspect is crucial,” emphasizes Dr. hab. Mirosław Kowalski, Director of the Institute of Pedagogy.

It is worth noting that cooperation between the University of Zielona Góra and the Police School in Piła has been ongoing for some time. The signing of this agreement formalizes earlier activities.
“Both institutions serve important public roles, educating and shaping young people for different functions in society. As academics, we aim to equip our students with knowledge, skills, and competencies useful for pursuing careers in the police. Service reality can be challenging—we want to prepare them so that nothing comes as a surprise. I believe our synergy will lead to innovative outcomes,” explains Dr. Ernest Magda, Deputy Director of the Institute of Pedagogy.

The cooperation between the University of Zielona Góra and the Police School in Piła is multifaceted and responds to current labor market needs, including staffing shortages and challenges related to cybercrime.
