Nearly 200 women took part in a fitness workout, giving it their all during the third edition of the "Girl Power" Sports Day — an academic celebration of International Women's Day at the University of Zielona Góra (UZ). Although March 8th was still a few days away, the spirit of athleticism and positive energy took over all participants this Thursday, regardless of their age or fitness level.
The floor of the AZS UZ sports hall (University Sports Association) on Prof. Szafran Street was practically buzzing with endorphins and female empowerment. During the 45-minute session, every muscle group was put to work. Participants tackled jumps, push-ups, stretching exercises, and crunches. "Today, we activated our entire bodies. We worked without weights at a moderate intensity, allowing everyone to follow their own pace without pressure. Between sets, there were breaks to catch a breath and grab some water. The most important thing was having a great time together and spending quality time as a community," explains fitness instructor Martyna Dalecka from the UZ Department of Sport and Health Promotion.
There was no shortage of volunteers eager to burn calories. The sports hall was filled to capacity with students, lecturers, and administrative staff of the University of Zielona Góra. "I loved the previous editions of Girl Power, so I couldn't miss it this year. It's a fantastic opportunity to get moving. I’m physically active every day – I dance, go to the gym, and play badminton," says Natalia Oleszczyk, a third-year physiotherapy student. "It’s a great chance for a group workout with lots of positive energy and fun. Generally, sports are a big part of my life; I cycle and run. Exercise is truly the best medicine," adds Dominika Moczyńska, also a third-year physiotherapy student.
In addition to the rush of endorphins, all participants received commemorative T-shirts – this year featuring a white and purple design. There were also gifts, including special UZ-branded socks. The event was organized by the AZS University of Zielona Góra in cooperation with the UZ Promotion Office.
