Inspiring Through Science for 25 Years. Join Us in Celebrating the Anniversary of the University of Zielona Góra

This year, we are celebrating the exceptional 25th anniversary of the establishment of the University of Zielona Góra. To mark this occasion, a wide range of events has been planned for the entire academic community, as well as for our graduates, partners, and the residents of Zielona Góra and the surrounding region. Let us celebrate together the spirit of science, the development of passions, and cooperation. In the coming months, educational, integrative, and entertainment events will be organized under the motto “Inspiring Through Science.”

The path leading to the establishment of the University of Zielona Góra began more than sixty years ago. In 1965, the Yuri Gagarin Higher School of Engineering in Zielona Góra was founded. The institution operated under this name until 1996, when it was transformed into the Zielona Góra University of Technology. The second higher education institution operating in Zielona Góra was the Teacher Training College, established in 1971, which in 1973 became the Pedagogical University in Zielona Góra. In 1989, the institution was named after Professor Tadeusz Kotarbiński.

The University of Zielona Góra was established through the merger of the Zielona Góra University of Technology and the Tadeusz Kotarbiński Pedagogical University in Zielona Góra. An important date in this process was 7 June 2001, when the Parliament of the Republic of Poland adopted the act establishing the University of Zielona Góra as of 1 September of the same year. On 1 September 2001, the first session of the University Senate was held. Subsequently, on 28 September 2001, the first inauguration of the academic year took place with the participation of the then Minister of National Education. Today, the University of Zielona Góra is the largest public higher education institution in the Lubusz Voivodeship.

Twenty-five years of activity as a higher education institution represent thousands of academic degrees and titles awarded. Above all, however, they represent thousands of well-educated graduates prepared to pursue professions such as lawyer, physician, economist, teacher, engineer, psychologist, linguist, educator, or musician. In order to express our gratitude to all those who have contributed to building our shared history, we have prepared a variety of events — reflecting the diversity of our academic community — which we will enjoy together over the coming months.
