Longtime UZ Employees Honored by the President of Poland and Local Authorities

More employees of the University of Zielona Góra have been awarded state and departmental decorations by the President of Poland. The ceremony took place on February 26 at the UZ Rectorate, where over forty individuals were honored. The event also served as an occasion to present awards from the Mayor of Zielona Góra to academic teachers of the University of Zielona Góra who were granted the title of professor by the President of Poland in 2023 and 2024. Several individuals were recognized in this category.

The ceremony began with the presentation of Silver Crosses of Merit. The recipients were two UZ scientists: Dr. hab. Ryszard Asienkiewicz, Prof. UZ, from the Institute of Sport, Tourism, and Nutrition, and M.Sc. Eng. Zdzisław Wałęga from the Institute of Mechanical Engineering.

Another important moment was the awarding of medals. Seven individuals received the Gold Medal for Long Service: Mgr Przemysław Bomski – Physical Education and Sports Department; Dr. hab. Mariusz Kasprzak, Prof. UZ – Institute of Sport, Tourism, and Nutrition; Mgr Ela Krajniak-Kiel – Accounting Department; Lic. Edyta Szykowna – Student Services Center; Dr. hab. Marzanna Uździcka, Prof. UZ – Institute of Polish Philology; Gabriela Wałęga – Payroll Department; Dr. hab. Eng. Joanna Zarębska, Prof. UZ – Institute of Management and Quality Sciences.

Following this, the Silver Medal for Long Service was awarded to nine university researchers: Dr. Eng. Halina Bartkiewicz – Institute of Sport, Tourism, and Nutrition; Dr. hab. Eng. Maciej Dzikuć, Prof. UZ – Institute of Economics and Finance; Dr. Agnieszka Gandecka – Institute of Sport, Tourism, and Nutrition; Dr. Tomasz Grzybowski – Physical Education and Sports Department; Dr. Agnieszka Perzyńska – Institute of Management and Quality Sciences; Dr. Andrzej Pokrywka; Dr. Eng. Paweł Schlafka – Institute of Mechanical Engineering; Dr. hab. Leszek Szymański, Prof. UZ – Institute of Modern Languages; Dr. Izabela Wojewoda – Institute of Sport, Tourism, and Nutrition.

Additionally, four UZ employees received the Bronze Medal for Long Service: Dr. Eng. Arkadiusz Denisiewicz – Building Institute; Dr. Justyna Korycka-Korwek – Institute of Sport, Tourism, and Nutrition; Dr. Anna Ludwiczak – Institute of Management and Quality Sciences; Dr. Mateusz Rynkiewicz – Institute of Sport, Tourism, and Nutrition.

During the ceremony, the National Education Commission Medals were also presented. Several University of Zielona Góra employees received this distinction: Dr. Aleksandra Arkit – Institute of Mathematics; Dr. hab. Katarzyna Baldy-Chudzik, Prof. UZ – Institute of Health Sciences; Mgr Jolanta Bąk – University Language Education Center; Mgr Jerzy Dalecki – Physical Education and Sports Department; Dr. Eng. Maria Dzikuć, Prof. UZ – Institute of Economics and Finance; Dr. Iwona Filipczak – Institute of Modern Languages; Dr. Joanna Frątczak-Muller – Institute of Sociology; Dr. Marek Kuczyński – Institute of Modern Languages; Mgr Marzena Lachowicz – University Language Education Center; Dr. Agnieszka Łazar – Institute of Modern Languages; Dr. hab. Włodzimierz Łenski, Prof. UZ; Dr. Agnieszka Mobley – Institute of Modern Languages; Dr. hab. Eng. The medals were presented by Prof. Dr. hab. Eng. Maria Mrówczyńska, Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education. During the ceremony, she emphasized: "The most important aspect of an academic teacher's work is to educate those who will surpass us. This is the only way to move forward and continue developing. We must always take the first step for the next generation. I congratulate you on these awards and medals, and I wish that your work continues to bring satisfaction, allowing us to develop our region and the University of Zielona Góra, and to educate future generations."

Additionally, during Wednesday’s gathering, awards from the Mayor of Zielona Góra were presented to academic teachers of the University of Zielona Góra who received the title of professor in 2023 and 2024. The honorees included: Prof. Dr. hab. Krzysztof Urbanowski – Institute of Physics; Prof. Dr. hab. Stefan Dudra – Institute of Political Science and Administration; Prof. Dr. hab. Eng. Justyna Patalas-Maliszewska – Vice-Rector for Science and International Cooperation; Prof. Dr. hab. Agnieszka Zembroń-Łacny – Institute of Health Sciences; Prof. Dr. hab. n. med. Marcin Zaniew – Vice-Rector for Collegium Medicum; Prof. Dr. hab. n. med. Paweł Golusiński – Institute of Medical Sciences; Prof. Dr. hab. Van Cao Long – Institute of Physics; Prof. Dr. hab. Magdalena Steciąg – Institute of Polish Philology; Prof. Dr. hab. Eng. Maria Mrówczyńska – Building Institute; Prof. Dr. hab. Urszula Świderska-Włodarczyk – Institute of History; Prof. Dr. hab. Inetta Nowosad – Institute of Pedagogy; Prof. Dr. hab. Eng. Piotr Kułyk – Institute of Economics and Finance.

Prof. Dr. hab. Wojciech Strzyżewski, Rector of UZ, summarized the event: "Today's awards and honors show that the University of Zielona Góra holds a vital place in the city, region, country, and even globally. It is hard to imagine Zielona Góra without its university, just as it is hard to envision the region without it. Together, we will continue to grow for the greater good."
