On June 11, 2025, the Ministry of Health concluded the evaluation process for applications submitted under the call for projects supporting the modernization and equipment of medical universities’ educational infrastructure. As a result, six universities—including the University of Zielona Góra—were selected to receive funding from the National Recovery Plan (KPO), with a total budget of PLN 281 million. The projects aim to improve pre-clinical education conditions and enhance clinical facilities, ultimately enabling an increase in the number of students enrolled in medical programs.
Funds from the KPO can be allocated toward the construction, modernization, and equipment of educational infrastructure at medical universities. The title of the project submitted by the University of Zielona Góra is “Modernization and Equipment of the Educational Base for the Needs of the Preclinical Science Center at UZ.” The university has been awarded PLN 21,644,241.81 in KPO funding. The investment will enable improvements in the quality of pre-clinical education and better preparation of students for practical and clinical training. Modern infrastructure will provide optimal learning conditions and support the development of competencies for future doctors and other healthcare professionals.
“We have been waiting quite a long time for these funds, which were delayed in reaching us from the European Union. As a university, we were fully prepared to submit our application, which primarily targets improvements in the educational base for pre-clinical subjects within medical programs. This directly concerns Collegium Medicum at UZ. It’s important to note that neither at its inception nor during its development did Collegium Medicum receive any specifically dedicated educational infrastructure. There was, therefore, a pressing need to equip both the medical program and other healthcare-related fields—especially since these are among the most popular choices for high school graduates,”
said Dr. hab. Mariusz Naczk, Professor at UZ and Vice-Rector for Development and Finance at the University of Zielona Góra.“Collegium Medicum at UZ is thriving, and we must continuously build and expand its infrastructure. We are very pleased that our application was accepted in full. This is extremely important for improving the educational conditions of our students—future doctors, nurses, and physiotherapists. The investment is divided across five key areas,” added Prof. Naczk.
The project “Modernization and Equipment of the Educational Base for the Needs of the Preclinical Science Center at UZ”, supported by European Union funds under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, includes five investment tasks:
In addition to the University of Zielona Góra, the following universities will also receive funds from the National Recovery Plan: Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, University of Opole, University of Rzeszów, and the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn. The selected projects include the establishment of Medical Simulation Centers and adapting facilities for conducting OSCE (Objective Structured Clinical Examination) assessments. Universities may also apply for funding to modernize libraries and student dormitories.
