The first stage of admissions to the University of Zielona Góra for the 2026/2027 academic year has now been completed. By 11 July, a total of 10,454 candidates had registered, marking a record number in recent years. The figures refer to full-time first-cycle programmes and long-cycle Master’s degree programmes.
As in previous years, medical programmes attracted the greatest interest. A total of 3,588 candidates applied for the Medical Programme alone. There was also considerable interest in Nursing (667 applications), Psychology (620 applications) and Physiotherapy (520 applications).
In terms of the number of candidates per available place, the most competitive programmes were Medicine (40 candidates per place), Physiotherapy (12) and Nursing (9).
Other programmes that attracted considerable interest included English Philology, Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, Speech Therapy with Neurodidactics, Sociology, Law and Polish Philology. “The figures are astonishing. We are also pleased to see renewed interest in the humanities and social sciences. We have considerable interest in, among other programmes, Journalism, History and Education. Technical sciences are also proving popular, which is not necessarily something that can be taken for granted today. Medical programmes have been a major attraction for years, and they have the highest number of candidates. While we can increase admission limits for other programmes, and we will do so, in the case of medical programmes we are already bound by the limits set by the Ministry of Health. Competition in these programmes is therefore extremely high,” explains Dr Barbara Literska, Associate Professor at UZ, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and the Quality of Education.
Registration is the first step towards undertaking studies. Candidates who have received information that they have been admitted now have time to submit the required documents. They can do so at a designated point in Building A-16 on Campus B.
