Students and staff of Campus B at the University of Zielona Góra now have a dedicated space for relaxation, taking a break, and organising their thoughts. A new quiet room has been established in building A-16. The room provides appropriate conditions for calming down and regeneration, taking medication, or feeding a child away from excessive sensory stimuli.
The official opening of the quiet room took place on Thursday, 4 December this year, in room no. 318. The idea behind its creation stems partly from the provisions of the Act on Accessibility and Support for Persons with Special Needs. At the same time, the room is also a response to signals from the academic community. Requests had been received to create a space where everyone could find a moment of respite and peace. As emphasised by Andrzej Pieczyński, DSc, Eng., Professor at the University of Zielona Góra, from the Centre for Equality, Accessibility and Support, the room is intended to serve as an oasis of silence and a place to restore mental balance. He also noted that this is already the second quiet room at the University of Zielona Góra, and that the opening of further such spaces is not ruled out in the future.
Relaxation and improved well-being are supported by the room’s carefully selected equipment. The space is fitted with specialist lighting, a comfortable sofa, and a baby changing table. As explained by Barbara Literska, DSc, Professor at the University of Zielona Góra, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Quality of Education, the room is available to everyone. The key can be collected from the porter’s desk upon presentation of a student ID or University staff card. However, strict adherence to the rules is essential. Talking, using computers, or holding meetings in the room is not permitted. The principle is simple—no additional stimuli, only silence.
It is worth noting that the first quiet room at the University of Zielona Góra was opened in 2023 in building A-2 (room no. 5).
