Students Took Over the City: Bacchanalia 2025

It was a crazy week for students of the University of Zielona Góra, all thanks to Bacchanalia 2025 – the annual Student Culture Days. This year’s edition took place from June 2nd to June 7th, and as always, it was packed with attractions. The organizers of Bacchanalia 2025 made sure there was something for everyone – from music and cinema lovers to sports enthusiasts and foodies.

The first event on the Bacchanalia schedule was the Race for the Rector’s Cup. Participants had to complete a one-kilometer route. The fastest runners – and thus the winners in their categories – were Wiktoria Dydak (physiotherapy student) and Kamil Gierula (economics student). Both agreed that the route, which led through the Poets’ Park, wasn’t particularly challenging. For these seasoned runners, such a short distance felt more like a warm-up than a race.

The official opening of Bacchanalia 2025 took place with the symbolic handing over of the city keys. On the small stage at Campus B, Julia Kolendowicz, Chair of the Student Parliament of the University of Zielona Góra, received the symbolic power over Zielona Góra from Mayor Marcin Pabierowski. “It’s a huge responsibility, but also a great joy that we can meet once again and spend these few days in such an exciting way,” said Kolendowicz from the stage. The festivities kicked off immediately with the traditional Grand Barbecue in the meadow. The event also featured booths and activities hosted by UZ student scientific clubs, a Foam Party, and a sports zone by AZS (Academic Sports Association).

Tuesday was equally packed with attractions. To start the day, students could join Speed Friending. “It’s a great way to meet new people and talk face-to-face. In today’s times, that kind of direct contact isn’t easy. For some, it’s even stepping out of their comfort zone,” said participants of the social game. Another high-energy event was the 3x3 Basketball Tournament for the AZS Cup, which saw over 30 matches played on Campus A. The day concluded with an open-air movie screening – “Cinema Under the Stars”, where students gathered on the Campus B meadow to watch the animated classic Shrek.

On Wednesday, the focus shifted to active fun with a Bingo-themed field game. Players used the BacchanaliaGo mobile app, which included all game information – from task lists to an interactive map. Participants had to complete various challenges, such as finding the Radio Index studio or collecting signatures from UZ lecturers. The evening brought more action with a Laser Tag tournament, where two teams battled it out using laser guns.

Thursday featured a splash of color with a student-led mural project that will soon decorate the interior of building A-0. “Our activity was spontaneous and based on artistic expression and art therapy techniques. Each student added their own creative touch to the mural,” explained Dr. Małgorzata Czerniawska from the Institute of Architecture and Urban Planning at UZ. That same day, Dorm Olympics brought together residents of the Ziemowit, Rzepicha, and Piast dorms, with Piast emerging as the winner this year. Competition and fun continued into the night during the Board Game Night, held for the third time at the university. As always, the event drew a huge crowd. “We were surprised by how many people enjoy board games. It’s really great to see. Participants could choose from a variety of games – from funny and lighthearted to strategic and challenging,” said Anna Gaczyńska from ZKF Ad Astra.

Friday and Saturday were all about music and performances on the Campus B stage. On Friday, music lovers were treated to performances by ROADHOUSE, YEAHDEYV, FIRLEY, and DJ SOINA. A large crowd of students and city residents gathered to enjoy the iconic band Ich Troje. The evening also saw a high-energy set from Szpaku. Despite the rainy weather, Saturday’s lineup didn’t disappoint – with HYSTERIA, ROKSANA NIEZGODA, THE GOLD DUST, and PAWEŁ SZNAJDER taking the stage. The stars of the night were Mrozu and Otsochodzi. Alongside the concerts, there was a food truck zone and booths set up by the event’s partners.

Bacchanalia 2025 – Student Culture Days was organized by the Student Parliament of the University of Zielona Góra in cooperation with the Association of Students and Alumni “UZeciak.”
