Last Saturday, June 28th, we celebrated the graduation ceremony for students of the medical program at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Collegium Medicum of the University of Zielona Góra. This year, 96 graduates received their diplomas and took the Physician’s Oath.
The medical program has been offered at our university for 10 years now and continues to enjoy unwavering popularity. Although the studies are demanding, the learning process is engaging and highly rewarding. As summarized by Professor Marcin Zaniew, MD, PhD, Vice-Rector for the Collegium Medicum: “The fifth cohort has graduated from Collegium Medicum – a wonderful group of young people who were excellent students, and I believe they will become very good doctors. The program is undoubtedly challenging and rigorous – it’s six years of study. (…) Let’s remember that this is just the beginning, followed by further education – specialization, internships. But it must be said that these are fascinating studies. Despite the hardships, I believe none of the graduates regret choosing this path.”
As calculated by Dr. Bartosz Kudliński, MD, Vice-Dean for Student Affairs at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences: “It was six years of hard work – specifically, 5,705 hours of lectures and classes.” Dr. Kudliński also emphasized that many graduates plan to start their professional careers in Zielona Góra and the surrounding region: “A significant portion – I would say over half – of these students will remain in the Lubusz Voivodeship. There are many reasons for this. Firstly, many of them are local residents; secondly, some received scholarships from the Marshal’s Office; and others simply decided during their studies that they want to stay here and work for the benefit of the Lubusz community.”
Dr. Kudliński also delivered the final lecture and led the official Physician’s Oath ceremony.
The event was attended by: – Dr. Barbara Literska, Assoc. Prof., Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Quality of Education – Dr. Jolanta Chmielowiec, Assoc. Prof., Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences – Dr. Piotr Defort, MD, Vice-Dean for Clinical Affairs
– Dr. Jacek Kotuła, MD, President of the District Medical Chamber in Zielona Góra
– Bogumiła Ewa Jaske, Director of the Health Protection Department of the Marshal's Office of the Lubusz Voivodeship – Dr. Marek Działoszyński, President of the Board of the Karol Marcinkowski University Hospital in Zielona Góra – Dr. Antoni Ciach, MD, Medical Director of the University Hospital as well as heads of departments, Collegium Medicum coordinators, and the families and loved ones of this year’s graduates.
During the official ceremony, the most distinguished students were recognized. Among them were: Nadia Herchi, Karolina Michalak, and Sara Laskowska (for academic achievements), and Jakub Wojtacha (for his contributions and involvement in Collegium Medicum activities).
Dr. Marek Działoszyński expressed his satisfaction with the growing number of well-prepared medical graduates, while also highlighting the continuous learning required in the profession:
“For them, learning does not end here, because this profession demands constant development, education, and the pursuit of further academic titles. (…) We are, of course, very interested in graduates of our Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. We hire them, we offer internship positions, and later employment as residents. (…) We are the university’s own institution, which makes us even more proud and satisfied with their achievements.”
We wish all this year’s medical graduates from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of Collegium Medicum at the University of Zielona Góra continued success in their further education, fulfillment of their career aspirations, and unwavering motivation in achieving their goals.
