From May 20th to 24th, the stationary part of the first Blended Intensive Programme entitled "Hidden Order of Various Complex Systems" took place at the University of Zielona Góra. The event was organized by the Institute of Sociology, the Faculty of Physics and Astronomy, and the Faculty of Biological Sciences.
The BIP was attended by students from the University of Alba Iulia (Romania), the University of Presov (Slovakia), foreign students from Greece, Spain, and Turkey who are studying at the University of Zielona Góra this semester, as well as students from our university. The BIP program was interdisciplinary in nature, and classes were conducted in the form of lectures, workshops, laboratories, and outdoor activities, which took place on both UZ campuses, as well as in the city of Zielona Góra and nearby towns. Their aim was to search for order and attempt to understand and describe complex systems from a social, biological, physical, astrophysical, and urban perspective.
On Friday, the project participants had the opportunity to visit apiaries in Zaborze and Kolsko, where outdoor activities, lectures, and presentations on modern and traditional beekeeping took place, showing the bee system as a complex system and the synergistic coexistence of humans with nature. Students had the opportunity to try tree climbing, taste delicious cakes and honey-based drinks, as well as traditional snacks. At the end of the outdoor workshop, they were treated to lunch in an old granary in Kolsko.
In addition to the rich educational program, there were many integrative meetings as part of the BIP. On Tuesday, participants visited the Botanical Garden of the University of Zielona Góra, where they ate pizza together. On Wednesday, there was a special dinner in the ruins of the palace in Zatonie, combined with a historical lecture about the place, while on Thursday, we had the opportunity to feast together at a barbecue, trying delicious cheeses and cold cuts brought by our guests.
