It has been an intense few days at the University of Zielona Góra, all thanks to the Faculty Open Days, which began on Wednesday, March 5. During the first round, the following faculties opened their doors to prospective students: the Faculty of Engineering and Technical Sciences, the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Faculty of Humanities. Each of these events provided an opportunity to explore the diverse educational offerings at the University of Zielona Góra. The UZ Faculty Open Days are primarily aimed at high school students looking for inspiration for their future academic paths. Participants, both individual visitors and organized groups, had the chance to attend various presentations, workshops, and demonstrations. They could also visit laboratories, lecture halls, and seminar rooms. Additionally, the event featured scientific experiments and exhibitions from the university's active Student Research Societies.
On Wednesday, March 5, the Faculty of Engineering and Technical Sciences welcomed over 800 potential future students to its Open Day. Attendees were drawn by various demonstrations and workshops focused on technical sciences, including programming, automation and robotics, computer science, and virtual reality. The event also featured lectures on topics such as the construction and operation of vehicle charging stations, the future of chemistry, aeronautical mechanics, carbon footprint reduction and the design of cyber-physical systems. As the organizers emphasized, studying at the Faculty of Engineering and Technical Sciences at UZ guarantees a blend of passion and professional success. Technical fields of study provide opportunities for multifaceted skill development and access to well-paid career prospects. It is worth noting that the faculty currently offers 17 academic programs and educates over 3,000 students.
The Open Days at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, held on March 6-7 at the Medical Simulation Center of Collegium Medicum on Energetyków Street also attracted significant interest. Prospective students participated in hands-on activities that focused primarily on practical experience. The program included ambulance simulator scenarios, emergency room simulations, and a CPR course using training mannequins. Participants had the chance to learn about the full range of medical programs available at UZ, which currently include five fields: medicine, nursing, emergency medical services, midwifery and physiotherapy.
On March 12, all roads led to Campus B, where the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Faculty of Humanities held their Open Days. The Faculty of Social Sciences offered a rich program of lectures, demonstrations, and workshops covering topics such as human brain function, the intricacies of speech mechanisms, and the role of cultural animators. High school students also took part in an educational game that tested their knowledge of notable figures from the fields of science, politics, and history. Another highlight was the workshop titled "Speak with Confidence – A Warm-up for Final Exams," which introduced students to diction, breathing, and relaxation exercises to help them overcome stage fright during public speaking.
Meanwhile, the Faculty of Humanities attracted attention with exciting new academic offerings. Starting from the upcoming academic year, the faculty will introduce a Journalism and New Media program and a second-cycle program in Popular Literature and Game World Creation. Additionally, the History program will offer a new specialization in Military Studies. Prospective humanities students also enjoyed lectures and workshops led by UZ philologists, learning about French expressions commonly used in Polish and exploring pop culture, film and philosophical discussions on personal development and self-awareness.
During the Open Days for the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Faculty of Humanities, the ground floor of Building A-16 hosted stands showcasing various academic programs and Student Research Societies. Visitors had the opportunity to learn about different disciplines, engage in informal discussions with students and enjoy surprises, souvenirs, and sweet treats prepared to enhance their experience.
The Faculty Open Days at the University of Zielona Góra will continue until March 21. The events included Open Days for the Faculty of Arts (March 17-21, 2025), the Faculty of Law and Economics (March 18-19, 2025) and the Faculty of Science and Natural Sciences (March 19, 2025).
