The University of Zielona Góra Invites the Community to Celebrate its 25th Anniversary. Kicking Off with an Exhibition and Lectures

A unique exhibition, guided tours of the Rectorate, and lectures for local residents – these are among the first events organized by the University of Zielona Góra (UZ) to mark its 25th anniversary. On Wednesday, May 7, residents of the city and the entire region were invited to join the celebrations.

Participants had a unique opportunity to explore the interior of the historic building at 9 Licealna Street. UZ students took on the roles of tour guides, passionately sharing insights into the architecture and history of the UZ Rectorate.

"We had been preparing for these guided tours for quite some time. We searched for information online, but we also consulted our lecturers and the university authorities. We gathered all those facts, organized them, and selected the most fascinating details," explains Oliwier Stranc, a History student at UZ.

There was no shortage of people eager to take this historical walk. "I am a student at the University of Zielona Góra, and I decided to come here out of curiosity. I love the atmosphere of grand spaces that carry great energy. I’m curious to see what’s inside. On a regular day, I wouldn't have the chance to see these rooms behind the scenes," says Artur Liszkiewicz, a UZ student.

Some visited the building on Licealna Street out of sentiment. "I used to work in this building years ago, but I don't fully know its history. I hope to see some interesting things and learn something new," adds Marek Drewnowski, a former UZ employee.

25 Years of Academic Inspiration

The meeting was also an opportunity to see the anniversary exhibition.

"We have been inspiring through science and research for 25 years now, and this exhibition is proof of that. Across several hundred photographs, we can see everything that our university has lived and breathes. We have photos of the university authorities, characteristic buildings, as well as photo reports from major events, such as graduation ceremonies, Bachanalia (the student festival), the Science Festival, and sports events. The photographs also heavily feature our students and their activities in student research groups. It is also worth visiting the UZ Senate Hall, where we have prepared some real gems. Residents have a unique chance to see the Rector’s regalia and gowns up close," lists Małgorzata Włodarczyk, the UZ press spokesperson.

A Recipe for Longevity

The lecture by Dr. Justyna Korycka-Korwek, titled "The Lubusz Recipe for Longevity – From Tradition to Lifestyle Science," also drew significant interest from visitors.

"Today, we are revealing whether such a recipe actually exists—a way to ensure our lives are healthy, meaningful, and productive. We are checking whether the inhabitants of the Lubusz region know how to achieve this. Perhaps a few tips will emerge. This is also an opportunity to learn the residents' opinions on scientific evidence and whether they implement all these recommendations into their daily lives. In our region, we certainly live in a luxury provided by our forests and lakes. Thanks to the University of Zielona Góra, we also enjoy high-quality education, including in the fields of health and quality of life," emphasizes Dr. Justyna Korycka-Korwek from the UZ Institute of Sport, Tourism, and Nutrition.

Tips on longevity were sought out primarily by senior citizens.

"We are older now, and we want to take advantage of this opportunity. Such topics interest us greatly. Maybe we will learn something new and important. We try to attend meetings like this," say Mrs. Bogusława and Mr. Edward.

"I would like to find out how to live a long life in good shape. I already have some awareness, but I want to deepen this knowledge. Maybe I will learn something interesting," adds Mrs. Brygida.

"In two weeks, I will be celebrating my 88th birthday. I made it! So I came here because maybe I will hear something that will help me stay fit until the very end, so that I won't be a burden to my family. I try very hard to take care of myself. I walk, I do gymnastics, and above all, I exercise my mind. Because that is the most terrifying thing—if I were to lose touch. I would like to hear something more to help me work on that," shares Mrs. Maria.

Next Events Coming Up

The next opportunity to tour the UZ Rectorate will be on May 21. Another lecture for residents is also planned as part of our university's 25th anniversary.

The speaker for the second meeting will be Dr. Hab. Marceli Tureczek, Prof. UZ. The Director of the UZ Institute of History will take the audience on a journey through modern popular music – "From Chopin to Sabaton". The lecture will begin at 5:30 PM in Room 205.
