This is an important moment for the healthcare of children and youth in the Lubusz Voivodeship. On Friday, September 19, a joint declaration was signed by the Rector of the University of Zielona Góra, the Marshal of the Lubusz Voivodeship, and the Mayor of Zielona Góra regarding the development of the site of the former traffic training town on Stanisława Wyspiańskiego Street in Zielona Góra. Recall that the Children and Youth Treatment Center will be built on this plot, which currently operates in Zabór.
The declaration concerns, among other things, cooperation and actions aimed at the optimal use of the space where the investment will be carried out – while preserving as many trees as possible and protecting green areas. The agreement also aims for the Lubusz Voivodeship to take steps to establish a legal agreement with the University of Zielona Góra regarding the property titles for the land on which the investment will take place. "The University of Zielona Góra will always support the improvement of medical facilities, in this case, child psychiatry. We are providing the plot for the new hospital. We want a well-designed space around the hospital for the residents of Zielona Góra in the form of a park. Our academic staff will also work in the hospital – this is a natural resource that will also be used by our students and researchers," says Prof. Wojciech Strzyżewski, Rector of the University of Zielona Góra.
As emphasized by the Marshal of the Lubusz Voivodeship, relocating the Children and Youth Treatment Center is one of the largest projects in the coming years. "This is the only site that meets all the criteria. It is close to the University Hospital and provides access to qualified staff. This will be a place that supports not only treatment – which is fundamental – but also a space more friendly to the residents. We want to protect the area environmentally, preserving its open character with free access for residents for recreation and relaxation," declares Sebastian Ciemnoczołowski, Marshal of the Lubusz Voivodeship.
Plans also include designing a traffic layout that maximizes the use of existing paths while minimizing the need to remove trees. Access roads will use the existing roads from the former traffic training town, and parking will be located on the current paved area along Stanisława Wyspiańskiego Street. "This is a social need, a need for experts in child psychiatry. Children and youth need support. This declaration primarily represents my commitment to protecting green areas, developing a new spatial plan, and creating a true urban park around the future hospital. We are talking about pathways, small architectural features, and connecting this area with the nearby Poets’ Park. I also want to assure residents that the green areas will be secured through a planning document," explains Marcin Pabierowski, Mayor of Zielona Góra.
The construction of the Children and Youth Treatment Center is expected to be completed by the end of 2027, with the facility itself beginning operations in 2028.
