The Lubuskie Region – including the University of Zielona Góra – is strengthening its openness to cooperation with China. On Friday, 31 October, a meeting was held at the Marshal’s Office with regional and city authorities, business representatives, and members of the University of Zielona Góra, joined by Lu Shan, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China. The discussions focused on trade and cultural exchange, with particular emphasis placed on the region’s economic development oriented towards innovation and new technologies.
Academic issues also played an important role during the meeting. “I informed the Ambassador that students from China have the opportunity to pursue studies at our University in programmes offered in English. Since 2016, the University of Zielona Góra has welcomed nearly 140 students from China participating in academic exchange programmes, including Erasmus+, implemented by the UZ Institute of Physics and the Institute of Mathematics. Due to growing interest and demand among Chinese students, further talks on cooperation are currently underway—for example with Chongqing Normal University—and are being expanded to include all scientific disciplines at UZ. This opens the way to broader educational and research collaboration between our universities,” said Prof. Justyna Patalas-Maliszewska, Vice-Rector for Science and International Cooperation at UZ.
It is worth noting that the University of Zielona Góra offers students and academic staff from China opportunities to participate in academic mobility programmes funded through Erasmus+ and the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA). The University also actively cooperates with Chinese scientific institutions, making use of programmes that support researcher mobility between Poland and China, creating new prospects for educational and research development for both sides.
