UZ Students Took Part in the 2nd Edition of the Blended Intensive Programme Focused on the Internet of Things

UZ Students Participated in the 2nd Edition of the Blended Intensive Programme Focused on the Internet of Things. From June 9 to 13, 2025, a group of five Computer Science students from the Faculty of Engineering and Technical Sciences at the University of Zielona Góra (UZ), accompanied by coordinator Dr. Eng. Piotr Powroźnik from the Institute of Metrology, Electronics and Computer Science, took part in the on-site portion of the Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme (BIP), organized by Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen – THM (Germany). The programme, focused on the Internet of Things (IoT), is being implemented in cooperation with Universidad de Jaén – UJAEN (Spain), THM, Instituto Politécnico de Bragança – IPB (Portugal), and the University of Zielona Góra – UZ. UZ was invited to participate in the second edition of the programme by THM as part of the “Cooperation of Universities in Central and Eastern Europe” (CUCEE) network. The German university coordinated this edition, titled “BIP IoT @ THM,” while the first edition had been organized by the Spanish university.

The main objective of the BIP project was to deepen knowledge in the field of the Internet of Things. Participating students received a total of 6 ECTS credits for completing the programme, which consisted of two phases:

  • Online phase: Lectures and laboratory work took place from March 19 to May 14, 2025.
  • On-site phase: Titled “BIP IoT @ THM,” this phase took place from June 9 to June 13, 2025, at THM in Germany.

The on-site phase was held in the laboratories of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at THM’s main campus in Giessen. During this phase, mixed student groups from the participating universities completed a series of laboratory exercises and project tasks developed in advance by the project coordinators.

In addition to the intensive academic programme, participants had the opportunity to engage in a variety of cultural and educational events. They took a trip to nearby Frankfurt am Main, where they explored the city’s history and major attractions. The students also visited Pfeiffer VACUUM, a company specializing in vacuum technology, where they learned about the firm’s manufacturing processes and solutions (pumps, systems, components, and services). They toured the nearby town of Wetzlar, which hosts one of THM’s campuses and is known as the setting of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s novel The Sorrows of Young Werther.

Two further editions of the programme are already being planned. The third edition, in the 2025/2026 academic year, will be coordinated by Instituto Politécnico de Bragança, and the fourth edition, in 2026/2027, will be hosted by the University of Zielona Góra.
