The long-awaited renovation of Vicewersal, the oldest student residence in Zielona Góra, has been completed. The scope of work carried out in the building was extensive. In addition to thermal modernisation, replacement of window joinery and electrical and plumbing installations, the building was also extensively remodelled. The residence can accommodate 134 UZ students.
One of the most significant changes is the replacement of the former multi-person rooms with 53 residential units, including two fully adapted to the needs of people with disabilities. Each unit has its own private bathroom and kitchenette. The era of using shared kitchens and bathrooms on each floor has therefore come to an end. “Everything here is new, as if it had just been built. The residential units and other facilities will provide our students with a great deal of comfort. This was not an ordinary renovation. It was a construction project carried out from the ground up – on the existing structural framework. We have a new building in the same location,” emphasises Dr Barbara Literska, Associate Professor at UZ, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and the Quality of Education.
The student residence on al. Wojska Polskiego has been fully adapted to the needs of people with disabilities. An elevator has been installed, access ramps have been constructed, and appropriately adapted facilities have been prepared for people with reduced mobility. The common areas also include, among other facilities, the residence manager’s office, a quiet study room and a laundry. “It is worth investing in the comfort of our students. The building makes a tremendous impression. Our students will have ideal conditions here for both living and studying,” adds Dr Eng. Katarzyna Łasińska, Chancellor of UZ.
For the safety of residents, an electronic access control system has also been introduced. Access to the building, residential units and rooms will be possible exclusively with a student ID card or guest card. The former canteen has been converted into a gym, which will be managed by AZS UZ. The facility is currently being equipped and will open on 1 October 2026.
The “Gęba” club is also returning to the Vicewersal residence. The club has a separate entrance, meaning that artists and event participants will no longer need to move through the residential areas. The total cost of the investment exceeded PLN 21 million. The amount includes both government funding and the University’s own contribution.
