Sport and recreation

Zielona Góra has a very well-developed sports infrastructure that allows of doing many sports disciplines, both individual and team ones. The following elements create our city’s sports base: public facilities (e.g. gyms, fields, pools and courts) as well as halls where professional competitions and games take place. In addition, numerous parks and forests enable people to spend time actively in the open air. In Zielona Góra, you can also participate in such sports events as: runs, cycling excursions and walking tours.

Sports facilities

In the city and its close vicinity, there are many attractive sports facilities. The offer is so diverse that, without a doubt, you will find something that suits you. Below you can see the list of chosen places:

  • the Sports and Recreation Centre – includes, among others, a waterpark with a 25-metre-long pool, slides and hydro massages, a sports and performance hall that seats 5000 people, a gym, a spa, a squash court, a restaurant and a sports shop.
  • the Provincial Sports and Recreation Centre – offers a base for doing many sports. Swimming, tennis, horse riding or shooting sports are merely a couple of them. Moreover, contests of, among others, the Modern Pentathlon World Cup are organised there.
  • the Wallrav Race Centre – an ideal proposition for funs of motor sports. On a racing track, you can try riding a motorcycle or a go-kart.
  • the Lubuskie Region Aero Club – at the airport, you can watch aerobatic groups’ air shows, parachute or train to become a pilot. Within the airport, there is also, among others, a tennis court, a fitness club with a sauna and a gym as well as a department of the Zielona Góra Horse Riding Club.
  • the Przytok Golf & Resort - situated 10 km from Zielona Góra. Both novice and advanced golfers can play there.

Sports teams

Sport in Zielona Góra also means supporting local teams. Sports clubs constitute crucial part of the city’s culture and history. Their matches attract a lot of spectators and connect the residents.

The most famous sports teams in our city are:

  • a basketball club: Enea Stelmet Zastal Zielona Góra - a five-time champion of Poland, which has been in the forefront of the Polish basketball league for a few last years; the club has also played in such leagues as: the EuroLeague, the EuroCup Basketball and the VTB United League,
  • a speedway club: Falubaz Zielona Góra - a seven-time champion team of Poland which rides its matches at the 15000-seat stadium called “W69”,
  • a football club: Lechia Zielona Góra - is currently the best football team in the Lubuskie province and plays in the III Polish Football League,
  • an American football club: Wataha Zielona Góra – can boast the team’s striking game and brisk introductions of the players on the field comparable almost to the ones in the famous American football league – NFL.

Cycle paths and Nordic walking trails

Zielona Góra offers many ways of spending leisure time in the open air. You can go for a relaxing walk to the near forests and parks located both in the city centre and on the outskirts. It is also worth riding a bike through the network of bicycle paths and strolling along the Nordic walking trails.


By bike:
The bicycle paths cross the whole city and its vicinity. Use them in terms of both transport and recreation. Traverse Zielona Góra by bike and discover its corners. If you do not have your own bike, you can hire one from a Zielona Góra City Bike rental. Fans of fast riding can also find a place for themselves, for instance, the 4 Elements Single Track.


On foot:
If you like trekking trips, you should definitely visit the Piast Hills also known as the Nordic walking land of Zielona Góra. A couple of well-signposted trails located there will lead you across a wooded and hilly area. On the way, you will go by some interesting points and places, among others, a stream called Pustelnik (the Hermit) and its spring, Bismarck’s brick tower and the highest point of Zielona Góra. Additionally, it is worth seeing the Oder Riverine Forest situated at the other end of the city. Here you can walk by picturesque old river beds of the Oder, among the lush scenery.
