Zielona Góra is a capital of the Lubuskie province, located next to the Polish-German border. Our city is compact and provides comfortable living conditions which give a sense of comfort and calm in everyday life. You can easily move around the city by means of the city public transport or just walking. Green areas, which constitute as many as circa 50% of Zielona Góra’s territory, enable people to stroll and spend time actively in the open air. What is interesting, in terms of the area, Zielona Gora is one of the biggest cities in Poland!

Additionally, Zielona Góra offers many interesting ways of spending free time, i.e. a wide choice of places and events connected with entertainment, culture and sport.

Moreover, Zielona Góra has great potential and is constantly developing. Thus, the city will help you reach the future of your dreams! Our city is called the Polish Silicon Valley because many well-known companies prosper here and succeed not only in Poland but also in Europe and all over the world. These are among others: Eobuwie, Modivo, Cinkciarz, ADB, Ekoenergetyka and Perceptus. What is important, many of such businesses have been established by the graduates of the University of Zielona Góra. The existence of these companies gives you a chance to find a job. They frequently base their work on foreign languages, mostly English and German. Join them or create your own business and contribute to the development of Zielona Góra and the whole region!

What are we famous for?

Zielona Góra is over 800 years old! Get to know the city’s interesting history which is mostly related to the following 3 issues: winemaking, witch trials and industry (mainly textile industry).

Zielona Góra can boast the few-hundred-year-old, rich winemaking traditions that originated from the 12th-14th centuries. They are still being revived, as in Zielona Góra and its vicinity many vineyards are being formed. Also events connected with viticulture are regularly organised here. While walking along the city, you can come across a monument of Bacchus, the god of wine and a symbol of Zielona Góra. You can also follow the Route of the Little Bacchuses that consists of over 60 little figurines and expands each year. What is interesting, the University of Zielona Gora itself has funded 3 figurines whose names are: UZetikus, Banachus and ŻakUZ Jubilatus. Study in Zielona Góra and find all the Little Bacchuses. Download a leaflet and find out how our university supports the local winemaking development.

The witch trials, in turn, date back to the 17th century. You can find out more about this dark part of the history in the Lubuskie Region Museum. When it comes to the development of industry, which took place mostly in the 19th century, there are still some historic industrial buildings in the city, for instance: an old cognac factory or an old textile mill.

Zielona Góra is also considered to be the cradle of Polish cabaret. Many well-known cabaret groups come from the Zielona Góra Cabaret District which was founded by our university’s students.
